Publications
Central to my work for
audiences across the South West is "Hinterland";
details on that link.
I
also have other publications available for your delight and delectation!
They
are "The Seventh Wave", "Peaches And Creosote",
"Trading In Sepia" and "Dearing's Wilderness".
All feature original illustrations and photography.... and now the latest offering,
"Return Journey", is also available.
a
diverse collection - song-lyrics about dark legend... poetry inspired by the stories
of William Bligh and by Arthurian legend... an extended prose piece that evokes
the elegant magic of The Eden Project... and all sorts of nods to dreams of the
past. Many of the items have already achieved great success in performance venues
all over the South West - here then, a chance to read them!
an
extract from a piece inspired by The Bounty...
"Home
through raging whirlpools and unknown cliffs and bays, Home to names on some great
honour roll..."
This
ranges... and I mean ranges... from one extreme to another! I am often
asked to perform a few scurrilous items - they are all in this dubious volume!
However, for the more sensible reader, I also offer pieces inspired by a range
of experiences... a set of song lyrics written for my good friend Ben... prose
that celebrates local landscapes... and an item from a Folk Drama. Read on and
try not to be too offended!
from
a poem suggested by Vin Garbutt...
"Will I feel
my blood come thrushing In my lonesome cliff top den?
Feather she'll return
to me I really don't know wren!"
Here's a
newer publication. Recently we visited Brownsea Island and a major prose piece
is herewith contained. The reader will find - amongst others - a further song
lyric for Ben, some seasonal observations - Autumn, Harvest, Yuletide... and some
darker poetry. There's also a couple of items dedicated to some fine musicans
that I have had the great pleasure of meeting and seeing in performance.
from
the "island" section...
"
... I stopped and listened to the water kiss-lapping the island's edges in that
most precious and vital of rhythms... "
A story
about a Dartmoor shepherd who finds history has caught him up... who finds modern
life ugly... but who, as the Victorian age is ready to pass on, sees that love
can be found. The story features genuine moorland settings and comes, quite simply,
from a landscape of the heart. This new edition of Dearing's Wilderness features
photographs of the genuine settings treated to sepia effect...
"Out
of the gloom of the afternoon, he could see a light glowing from his cottage window..."
The
very latest offering, featuring two major prose pieces inspired by a fine holiday
in North Wales - together with an evocation of the glories of Cornish cider, a
few new song lyrics and a widely acclaimed piece that conjures up both the horror
and humanity of Armistice Day 1914. Perhaps darker in tone in places, this collection
has been extensively featured in recent performances at a range of Folk venues.
from
"In The Village"
"There
I stood and looked back - over the Hotel, that odd boat and towards the Observatory
Tower. And still further… into the heart of a long-ago teenager..."
